STEREOTYPING

Wikipedia shows that a stereotype is a thought that may be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things, but that belief may or may not accurately reflect reality . However, this is only a fundamental psychological definition of a stereotype. Within and across different psychology disciplines, there are different concepts and theories of stereotyping that provide their own expanded definition. Some of these definitions share commonalities, though each one may also harbor unique aspects that may complement or contradict the others Stereotyping is exaggerated generalization associated with a categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claim that usually have no valid basis. It is sometimes difficult to avoid from doing. To understand different examples of stereotypes, you should first define what a stereotype is. Any time you grouping races or individuals together and make a judgment about them without knowing them, this is an example of a stereotype. Racial remarks, sexual remarks, and gender remarks are the biggest stereotypes. There are also some common stereotypes of men and women. For instance men are strong and do all the work, men are the “backbone.”, women aren't as smart as a man, and girls are not good at sports. From my point of view, sometimes stereotyping is not needed in our life. We cannot just simply organizing scheme to classify people because sometimes people are not like what we was thinking about them. It is true that most people find difficult to to avoid it. Here are some ways to avoid the stereotyping. The first one is Make a list of the specific stereotypes that you wish to avoid. Start with the stereotypes that you dislike the most, and work towards counteracting. As time goes on, work your way down the list. The second one is, Don't stereotype yourself, period. Don't expect people not to label you if you label yourself. Don't try to fit in any kind of stereotype, for example, don't categorize your style as "emo", "preppy", "gangsta" or "punk".Then Don't stereotype others. If you call somebody "an annoying prep", that person will most likely call you back "a weird emo" or something. Be tolerant and don't judge people for how they dress or who they hang out with.
